In the game of life, what game are you playing?
There are many answers to this question. Some may feel “Wheel of Fortune,” while others think “Jeopardy.” Some folks may feel their life is like “Ouija” or the game of “Life.”
When I considered this question, my first thought was “Basketball.” I didn’t choose the game because I’m tall; it was just the first thought that came to mind. Then, I wondered why basketball was such an immediate response.
As a kid, I lived for the moment I got home from school and ran outside to began playing hoops. There were no other kids around, just me. My imagination placed me in every “game-saving” scenario possible. I played for every major college in the US and was shooting the game-winning basket in every championship.
It has been years since I bounced a ball, must less shot a basket. The last basket I remember making was at Dollywood where I won a huge bear for my efforts. (I still have the bear.)
So why did basketball come to mind?
When I began to break it down, it made total sense. When on the court it is just the 5 teammates working together. Each person’s individual efforts contribute to the overall cause and success. Jim Rohn says we are the average of the 5 people we most often associate with. This is certainly true for basketball. It is the collective efforts that create an average – the final score.
There is more.
A team fluctuates from offense to defense, just as in life, with the other team’s defense posing obstacles and your defense creating barriers to limitations. And, then there is the free throw. Again, as in life we are often given one shot. It is the ice water in our veins and the ability to overcome distractions to create desired results.
I must confess I celebrate “March Madness” here in the US. The month of March is when the college basketball nation begins their extended tournament play to crown a national champion. It is when you see efforts become successes and dreams become reality. The foundation is a belief in you and knowing that with coaching, support, and the law of attraction bringing together like-minded people, unparalleled feats can be achieved.
So, what is your game?
